Get Crafty!

It's time to move to a different kind of screen for a day, this time a slightly messier and less precise one!

Silk Screen Printing is a centuries old technique originating in Ancient China. Revisiting old techniques with our modern designs is a great way of connecting with the history of art.

There's so much we can learn from the process and incorporate across media into everything we make.

This course will cover the following:

- Preparing the tools
- Creating the illustration and stencils
- Mixing the paints
- Applying the paints to create the design

- “Fixing” the design to the fabric

We'll go through each stage step by step and explain the theory behind each process so you'll be able not only to follow along the course, but to really understand each step to create your own unique silk screen prints.

  • Woman at an outdoor craft fair holding a silk screen printed T-shirt, with a brown van and trees in the background.
  • Book titled 'What tools you need' with various tools and supplies for silk screen printing arranged on a striped fabric background, including paint tubes, a squeegee, a popsicle stick, a pencil, a brown notebook, and a small red tool.
  • A book titled 'Creating the Print' with a subtitle 'A Complete Guide to Silk Screen Printing' on the left side of the image, and on the right side, hands pressing a red screen onto a flat surface during the silk screen printing process.
